Symposium

The FAN Symposium – Perspectives on European Animation is an international event jointly coordinated by the festivals Prime The Animation! New Talent International Festival (Valencia, Spain) and CINANIMA – International Animation Film Festival of Espinho (Portugal).

They are responsible for selecting the filmmakers to be studied and the invited researchers/speakers, as well as overseeing the Symposium’s regulations and academic standards across two editions: one in Valencia, Spain (2025), and another in Espinho, Portugal (2026). Each edition will take place in hybrid format. In 2025, guest speakers will focus on animated films from Greece and Spain; in 2026, the spotlight will turn to Cyprus, Italy, and Portugal.

Researchers will analyse the works of the invited animation filmmakers, documenting multidisciplinary perspectives on European animated cinema. The speakers’ contributions will also be presented in the form of academic and research papers, later compiled into a Final Online Symposium Publication, scheduled for late 2026.

The Symposium encourages academic participation from professors, students, researchers, and doctoral candidates, fostering long-term interest in the field.
