About FAN
To Watch to Expand: A Collaborative Vision for Animated Cinema
FAN – Festivals Animation Network – brings together five European animated film festivals, spanning from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, alongside Associated Partners around the world.
Our mission is to grow a diverse, international audience, as well as celebrate auteur animation and support emerging talents. FAN fosters collaboration between the five Partner Festivals through shared experiences and exchange of best practices. By joining forces, we work to promote and expand the reach and impact of European animation worldwide. Our programs include school-based productions, community screenings, debates, idea-sharing, and training exchanges. Sustainability, inclusion, and representation are core values to our mission and guide the overall implementation of FAN’s projects with innovative and concrete actions.

FAN’s influence is further expanded by collaborating with seven Associated Partner Festivals, four in Europe and three across other continents.
The four European Associated Partner Festivals are:
- BLON – Animation and Games Festival, held in Klaipeda (Lithuania).
- ITFS – Internationales Trickfilm Festival, held in Stuttgart (Germany).
- KAFF – Kecskemét Animation Film Festival, held in Kecskemét (Hungary).
- VAF – Viborg Animation Festival, held in Viborg (Denmark).
The three non-European Associated Partner Festivals are:
- MIAF – Melbourne International Animation Festival, held in Melbourne (Australia).
- PIXELATL Festival, held in Guadalajara (Mexico).
- SIFFCY – Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth, held in New Delhi (India).
In partnership with FAN’s five Partner Festivals, they significantly enhance the global impact of European films. Together, they foster exchange and circulation of best practices in audience development and cinema education, and support promotion of children’s educational activities in film literacy. The collective work of FAN’s Partner Festivals and Associated Festivals is guided by sustainable, inclusive, and representative practices. These collective efforts aim at engaging children and adults, amateurs and professionals to build worldwide appreciation and understanding of European animated cinema.
